Cloth hardcover 6x9” | Pages 288 | Fiction US$ 24.95 / CDN$ 26.95 | ISBN 9781601641557
Myx Amens has died twice and hasn’t slept in over three years. He fills his endless hours snooping in others’ lives, mostly collecting the truths and untruths they hide even from themselves. With a synesthetic mind and an eidetic memory, fourteen-year-old Myx is unusually well equipped to solve a series of grisly murders that rock his hometown of Miracle, Massachusetts.
Stare though Myx’s eyes for an unblinking 42 hours as he squeezes through the cracks in Miracle’s peaceful facade to find the answer to a 250-year-old puzzle—and the motive for the murders.
- "What makes this debut novel exceptional is Diotalevi’s clever use of Myx’s sense-mingling; more than a mere plot device, the character’s synesthetic gift enables the author to wax poetic one minute ("her hand smelled pink with carved curls of green") and comic the next ("her breasts talked to me, but I’m keeping their conversation private").
A wickedly funny, surprisingly moving genre-bending tale of small-town secrets, lies, and revenge." BOOKLIST STARRED REVIEW Read the full review. - “How can a debut novel be this good? What a treat to be in the mind of Myx Amens, the clever, capable, twice-dead protagonist who is full of surprises.”— Robert Fate, Academy Award-Winning writer, author of Baby Shark
